Anne Walker was described as a "fine-looking" young woman, and she had been married to Dr. Riley Slaughter, a neighboring planter. Dr. Slaughter would have killed his wife's lover, but the amorous and anonymous physician, with a celerity that might have put to shame a panic-stricken antelope, escaped.
